Josty's, Photograph,  St. Moritz

I  presented the "Josty's brothers" in the Bündner-Kalender 2006 in an article about the photographers in the upper-Engadine in the 19th century (June 2005 status)

It was not easy to find out who were these "Frars Josty" ("Brothers-Josty") Finally the following details could be found in the State Archive in Chur: they were the sons of Niklaus-Rudolf Josty and his wife Ida, born Josty, both from Madulein (Engadine, Grisons) but resident in Berlin:

Aufzählung

Johann, born  1839, died 1871 in Madulein

Aufzählung

Daniel, born 1.6.1834 in Hamburg, died 11.3.1891 in Cardiff

It is said that Johann already worked  as a Photographer in Berlin. If this can be proved, this should have been  before 1860.

Probably from the beginning years of their activity in St. Moritz: the 3 Photographs of Gian Bernhard-Rödel daughters from Bever. Pictures around the years 1862-64 (Private-archive descendant of Badrutt-Bernhard family)
From left to right: Anna (married with Christian Badrutt*), Maria-Andrietta (married with Chaspar Bühler, Samedan), Margretta  (married with Jan-Pitschen Ballastèr)
(my grand-grand father)

Here is a picture in big size of the newly built catholic church of St. Moritz with the same Gum-Stamp-label.  Indication "1866, probably 1867"
